Christine E. Maietta

Dr. Christine Maietta was the Assistant Director of Education at the National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) and an Assistant Research Scientist in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland. During her tenure at SESYNC, Christine contributed to many projects. She assisted with the production of the three-part "Introduction to Socio-Environmental Synthesis" video series; led the organization of SESYNC's first international symposium—Boundary Spanning: Advances in Socio-Environmental Systems Research; and contributed to the management of SESYNC's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and Socio-Environmental Immersion Program. Additionally, Christine served as a science editor and assisted the Center’s communications team with the development of educational resources for the broader community. 

Christine received her PhD in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Maryland in 2017. As an ecologist, she is interested in the mechanisms that shape the microbial communities of wetland ecosystems and how changes to wetlands can impact ecosystem services, like carbon storage and cycling of nutrients. In addition to her work at SESYNC, Christine furthered her academic interest in soil methane cycling and greenhouse gas emissions as a researcher in Dr. Margaret Palmer's research lab.
