Dr. Eric Seabloom is a Professor of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior at the University of Minnesota. Eric’s research interests span a broad array of basic and applied topics in community and ecosystem ecology, including the community ecology of disease, biological invasions, and restoration ecology. Some of Eric’s research themes include: consumer and resource control of productivity, diversity, and invasibility of communities and ecosystems; invasion and restoration of grasslands; invasions and coastal geomorphology and protection; and behavior- and consumption-mediated effects of consumers on plant communities. Eric is a co-founder of the Nutrient Network (NutNet), a grassroots collaboration of ecologists conducting the same experiment in over 100 research sites across the world. After receiving his PhD from Iowa State University, Eric was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis. Eric joined the faculty at the University of Oregon in 2004, then moved to the University of Minnesota in 2010 and spent 2013 as a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Brisbane, Australia. Eric served as Chair of SESYNC’s External Advisory Board from 2018–2021.
