Dr. Philippe Marchand was a data scientist at SESYNC from 2015 to 2016. He has been an Assistant Professor in Ecology and Biostatistics at the Institute for Forest Research of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) since 2018 and previously was a senior data scientist at Natera from 2016 to 2017. His research focuses on modeling processes that influence the spatial distribution of populations including seed dispersal and seedling establishment, animal movement, and the spread of forest epidemics. He teaches statistics courses for graduate students in ecology and environmental sciences, as well as short courses and workshops on topics related to spatial statistics and data science methods with the R language. He is an academic member of the Computational Biodiversity Science and Services (BIOS2) program, which trains early-career fellows in modern computational tools for ecology.
