Dr. Se Jong Cho develops computer simulation models to organize complex landscape information and data for understanding sediment sources, transport, and fate across the landscape. Part of her modeling efforts are to develop water management scenarios to inform policy decision analysis. Environmental problems, such as water pollution and land degradation, are essentially social problems; thus, she works in the intersection of social, economic, and environmental dimensions through multi-disciplinary research projects to find innovative solutions to pressing environmental problems across the world. While a postdoctoral research fellow at SESYNC, Se Jong conducted research on water resources development, Sustainable Development Goals, and environmental art and community engagement. She is also a professional painter of images of blurred boundaries of science and art, and surrealism and abstraction. Se Jong studied civil engineering as an undergraduate student at Northwestern University and earned her master’s degrees and PhD at Johns Hopkins University.
